About the Role
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of advanced material handling and warehouse automation systems. This role focuses on high-throughput sortation solutions used in distribution centers, fulfillment hubs, and logistics operations. You will play a key role in delivering efficient, scalable, and reliable systems that optimize product flow and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer mechanical systems for warehouse automation, including conveyors (belt, roller, MDR), sorters (crossbelt, tilt-tray, shoe sorters), merges, diverts, and accumulation systems
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, layouts, and fabrication drawings for production and installation
- Participate in system layout planning for distribution centers, ensuring optimal space utilization and throughput
- Collaborate with controls, electrical, and software teams to integrate mechanical systems with automation and control architecture
- Conduct design calculations (throughput, load capacity, motor sizing, structural integrity) to validate system performance
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT), including commissioning and troubleshooting
- Analyze system bottlenecks and implement design improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and maintainability
- Work with vendors and suppliers to specify components and ensure quality standards
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and ergonomic considerations
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and cost optimization efforts
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 3-5+ years of experience in material handling, intralogistics, or warehouse automation systems
- Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD)
- Solid understanding of conveyor systems, sortation equipment, and mechanical design fundamentals
- Experience with system layouts for warehouses or distribution centers
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, schematics, and equipment standards
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on engineering mindset
- Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-speed sortation systems (e.g., e-commerce or parcel handling environments)
- Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools (FEA, throughput modeling)
- Exposure to PLC-controlled systems and automation integration
- Knowledge of international standards (e.g., ISO, FEM, OSHA or equivalent safety frameworks)
- Experience working on large-scale warehouse or fulfillment center projects
- Understanding of lifecycle costing and system scalability considerations
