We are looking for someone with proven experience programming 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines, including complex multi-axis work. You will be based in the Machine Shop, working closely with the Quality and Production departments to produce quality end-products within set quality, tolerances and productivity time scales. This role is critical to the business and ensuring right-first-time manufacture, supporting challenging delivery schedules and solving complex machining problems in a high-pressure engineering environment.

We are looking for an experienced Programmer who is used to subcon manufacturing experience as opposed to production only.

The Senior CAD/CAM Programmer is responsible for delivering robust, efficient CNC programs for high-precision metal components manufactured on 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines. The role supports both internal production requirements and external customer projects, working with a range of materials including aluminium, copper, stainless steel and other alloys.

This role covers many facets including, Machining, Manufacturing, customer and Project support.

Create, optimise and validate CNC programs for 3-axis, 4-axis and simultaneous 5-axis machiningDevelop machining strategies for complex geometries and tight-tolerance partsGenerate complete CAM documentation including tooling lists, setup sheets and machining sequencesSimulate, verify and prove programs to eliminate collisions and minimise cycle timesSelect appropriate tooling and machining strategies for aluminium, copper, stainless steel and exotic materialsSupport machining teams during prove-out, first-off and production runsTroubleshoot machining issues quickly and effectively to minimise machine downtimeWork closely with production, quality and engineering teams to resolve technical challengesSupport continuous improvement initiatives focusing on cycle time reduction, tool life and process stabilitySupport both internal and external customers with complex and bespoke machining requirementsContribute to new product introduction (NPI) and fast-turnaround projectsProvide technical input to feasibility reviews, quotations and manufacturing planningAct as a senior technical resource for complex CAD/CAM and machining challengesApply strong problem-solving skills to deliver solutions under time pressureMaintain high standards of accuracy, quality and consistency in all programming activities

Experience and Qualifications

Subcon manufacturing experience as opposed to production only)Extensive experience as a CAD/CAM Programmer in a high-precision machining environmentProven experience programming 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines, including complex multi-axis workStrong proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, PowerMill, HyperMill, NX or CATIAExcellent understanding of CNC machining principles, tooling and cutting parametersAbility to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&TAbility to perform effectively in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environmentExperience within aerospace, motorsport, medical, defence or advanced engineering sectorsFamiliarity with CNC controls such as Mazatrol, Fanuc, Siemens or HeidenhainExperience with low-volume, high-complexity or fast-turnaround workKnowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100 or similar quality systemsHNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering or equivalent experienceTime-served apprenticeship in CNC machining or manufacturing engineering (desirable)
