This is actually a very long term contract role, paid and taxed like your normal job, so like a permanent role but paying excellent money. This will go on for 1 year plus+ - there are contractors onsite for 4 years.

We're working with a world-class manufacturer with an impeccable reputation for quality, high standards, and investment in people. They are looking for a hands-on Maintenance Engineer to join their team at a brand-new, fully automated factory near Enfield.

This is a long-term contract role for an experienced Maintenance Engineer, with the opportunity to work on newly installed, cutting-edge machinery and be part of an expanding site.

Maintenance Engineer Responsibilities

Reactive and planned maintenance of production machinery

Electrical or mechanical fault finding and repair (depending on skill set)

Minimise downtime and support on breakdowns

Assist with continuous improvement projects

Requirements for the Maintenance Engineer

Engineering qualification - City & Guilds Level 3 / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)

Proven experience in a manufacturing / process/ production environment

Good knowledge of maintaining production or process machinery

Strong background in either mechanical or electrical maintenance

Hands-on approach and ability to work as part of a team

Overview

The successful Lead Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for both supervising the maintenance team and remaining actively involved in day-to-day maintenance and repair activities across the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Act as the Lead Maintenance Engineer, overseeing and coordinating all site maintenance tasks.Lead, guide, and support a team of multi-skilled maintenance technicians, ensuring smooth operation and minimal downtime.Remain hands-on, carrying out fault finding, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a range of electrical and mechanical machinery.Plan and manage preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring all work is completed to high standards and in a timely manner.Support continuous improvement initiatives, recommending and implementing efficiency and reliability enhancements.Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company maintenance standards.Liaise with production and operations teams to quickly resolve technical issues and support manufacturing targets.

Candidate Requirements

Proven experience as a Lead Maintenance Engineer or Senior Maintenance Engineer in a manufacturing or production environment.Hand on experience of maintaining machinery. Previous experience leading or mentoring a maintenance team.Recognised engineering qualification (HNC/HND/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to maintenance.Excellent communication and organisational skills.Flexibility to support shift patterns or call-out requirements as needed.

Provide technical support, methods, tooling and project management

Compilation and submission of various Customer documentation packs

System and process audits up to completion as scheduled.

Location: Leeds
Hourly rate: £38.00-40.00 Inside IR35
Working hours: 12-hour shifts (days and nights) - 4 days on 4 days off

The Role

As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of production equipment by carrying out planned and reactive maintenance activities. You will work closely with operations teams to minimise downtime and improve machine performance.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a large, well-established manufacturing business with modern facilities in the Leeds area with lots of career progression opportunities and PLC training. Due to expansion and increased staffing across shift teams, we are currently recruiting 05 Maintenance Engineers to support operations within a highly automated production environment.

Key Responsibilities

Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on production equipment

Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults

Work with automated and PLC-controlled machinery

Support continuous improvement initiatives across the site

Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely and in line with company standards

Collaborate with engineering and production teams to maximise equipment reliability

Requirements

Experience working in a large manufacturing or industrial environment with complex machinery

Multi-skilled maintenance background (mechanical or electrical bias considered)

Candidates with strong mechanical experience and an electrical qualification are also encouraged to apply

Experience with PLC systems would be highly advantageous

Relevant engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, NVQ, HNC/HND or equivalent)
