About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join a leading airport automation integrator specializing in Baggage Handling Systems (BHS). This role focuses on the design, development, and commissioning of complex control systems supporting high-performance baggage handling solutions across major airport projects.

You will contribute to large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure, delivering reliable and efficient automation systems that ensure seamless baggage flow and operational continuity in high-demand airport environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement PLC-based control systems for baggage handling and airport automation solutions
  • Program and configure PLCs (e.g., Siemens S7 / TIA Portal, Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley platforms) and associated I/O systems
  • Develop HMI/SCADA interfaces for system monitoring, diagnostics, and operator control
  • Integrate controls with mechanical systems such as conveyors, sorters, screening equipment, merges, and diverters
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to ensure seamless system integration
  • Contribute to system architecture design, including industrial networks, control panels, and communication protocols (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.)
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Support on-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance optimization at airport locations
  • Diagnose and resolve control system issues in time-critical, operational environments
  • Ensure compliance with aviation standards, safety regulations, and cybersecurity requirements
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation including Functional Design Specifications (FDS), I/O lists, test procedures, and as-built documentation

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • 3-5+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering
  • Strong PLC programming experience (Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley platforms preferred)
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (e.g., WinCC, FactoryTalk)
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control panel designs
  • Hands-on experience with commissioning and troubleshooting automated systems
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, including airports
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in baggage handling systems (BHS), airport automation, or large-scale material handling systems
  • Familiarity with high-availability and redundancy-driven system architectures
  • Knowledge of safety PLCs and functional safety standards (e.g., SIL, IEC 61508)
  • Experience working within airport environments or regulated infrastructure projects
  • Exposure to integration with screening systems and security equipment
  • Experience in large, multi-phase automation or infrastructure projects
